POSITION DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Directs and reviews land surveys required for property and right-of-way determinations and construction layout, benchmarks and verification and future reference for construction projects. Trains and leads a survey crew.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*
The Survey Crew Chief position at the City of Tucson’s Department of Transportation & Mobility is responsible for conducting and analyzing land surveys, as well as leading a survey team to ensure accurate data collection for construction, engineering, and land development projects.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Land Surveyor. This position leads and instructs the daily operational work of survey personnel.
Guides survey crew staff, assigns tasks and encourages effective teamwork in the field. Provides mentoring and trainings on equipment and best practices. Addresses and resolves any challenges that may arise in the field, including equipment malfunctions or unexpected site conditions. Coordinates survey activities, including scheduling, resource allocation and logistics to meet project deadlines.
Operates instruments to measure distances, angles, elevations, and other topographical elements. Collects field data, including the location of boundary markers, structures, and other features. Records detailed observations and prepares notes on topographical features, as-built plans, and other relevant information. Interprets maps and specifications to ensure accurate survey work.
Audits field notes to confirm all data was capture and correctly interpreted. Ensures accurate and precise data collection using surveying instruments and techniques. Ensures that all field surveys are carried out according to project requirements. Reviews and verifies survey data for accuracy, consistency and adherence with project specifications.
Prepares and submits detailed reports, maps and documentation summarizing survey findings and results. Calculates distances, angles, elevations, and coordinates, to convert measurements between different units and systems for the accuracy and precision of survey results. Troubleshoots and reports technical issues with surveying equipment and data that may need replacements. Collects and analyzes data for accuracy and make necessary adjustments or corrections.
Acts as a liaison with contractors and other stakeholders to discuss project requirements, updates and any issues that may arise. Works closely with surveyors, engineers, and other professionals to understand project requirements and objectives. Assists in the planning and coordination of survey projects.
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
Indoor and outdoor work with heavy exposure to extreme physical ergonomic or emotional hazardous environment.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
6 months post high school
Work Experience:
Two (2) years of directly related experience
License:
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
