Pay Grade: 118

 

Annual Salary Range: $106,500 - $157,000

DESCRIPTION

This position oversees traffic operations and street maintenance services, including traffic signal systems, traffic control  signs, barricades, markings, and streetlighting, as well as plans and manages street repairs and reconstruction. Implements maintenance programs, traffic control plans and develops long-term infrastructure improvement plans. Ensures collaboration with internal departments and external agencies to maintain and enhance the City's transportation systems.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to the following

  • Develops and implements comprehensive programs for maintenance of the City’s street system including the pavement management program.
  • Oversees the coordination and installation of traffic signal and street lighting systems, markings, and sign service activities with City staff and outside organizations.
  • Establishes maintenance schedules for sign replacement, maintenance of markings, traffic signal re-lamping, traffic cabinet cleaning, and street lighting upgrading and maintenance programs.
  • Investigates work-related accidents; inspects the work of crews while in progress; provides advice and assistance to subordinate supervisors; supervises and directs safety activities among subordinates.
  • Coordinates street maintenance and traffic control and barricading activities with other City departments, special events, divisions and sections, and with outside agencies. 
  • Trains and instructs technical staff in pavement management procedures, construction administration of the street sealing program, miscellaneous concrete and asphalt work and other contracted services within the street system; supervises the training and instruction of equipment operators in the operation of loaders, graders, trucks and related equipment.
  • Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of staff. Participates in the selection of staff; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline procedures.
  • Participates in the operating and Capital Improvement Program budget preparation and administration; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; submits justifications for budget items; monitors and control expenditures.
  • May perform responsibilities of a similar nature and level as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Experience:

Five (5) years of experience in construction, traffic operations, traffic engineering, street maintenance, or related experience, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.

Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year).  The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience. 

 

Education:

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Civil or Traffic Engineering, Business or Public Administration.

The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal one-year increments for college-level education (2 additional years for an associate degree and 4 additional years for a bachelor’s degree).

 

Professional Licensure and/or Certifications:

A valid state driver's license
