Position Title: Maintenance Technician 1, General

Position Summary:

The Trades Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and basic repairs to buildings and equipment, to include basic plumbing for maintaining and repairing plumbing systems such as unclogging drains and lines, toilets, drinking fountains and sinks; routine electrical duties, such as installing light fixtures and outlets; assisting in basic painting of classrooms, offices, and other areas; and various grounds keeping duties, including trimming shrubs and trees and picking up litter from grounds.

The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform basic maintenance and repairs of College systems, facilities, and grounds
• Perform basic plumbing for maintaining and repairing plumbing systems, such as unclogging drains and lines, toilets and sinks
• Routine electrical duties, such as installing light fixtures and outlets
• Perform data entry input on the computerized maintenance management system
• Assist in basic patching and painting of classrooms, offices, and other areas
• Perform manual-labor duties, such as moving furniture and setting up for special events Perform quarterly room inspections
• Operate machinery, equipment, and a variety of power and hand tools associated with commercial facility maintenance and repair
• Maintain and clean equipment Operate College motor vehicles
• Read schematic drawings and/or construction drawings
• Use safe work practices, to include proper lifting and carrying methods Follow applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations Provide exceptional customer service
• Communicate clearly both orally and in writing sufficient to receive and convey instructions to perform the duties of the job
• Demonstrate interpersonal skills with coworkers, supervisors, the College community, and the general public
• Operate as part of a team, to include cross-training with other operations and maintenance staff

Job Requirements:

• High School Diploma, or General Equivalency Degree and
• One year related maintenance and repair experience and
• Valid Arizona driver license

or

• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above

The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Basic general maintenance techniques, including: plumbing, electrical, and grounds Basic repair and preventative maintenance
• Use of equipment and tools typical in assigned area, including climbing ladders Operation of wheeled vehicles
• Use and operation of a variety of hand and power tools Applicable driving laws and regulations
• Applicable computer programs and equipment Record keeping principles
• Safe work practices and procedures, to include reading Material Safety Data Sheets Exceptional customer service principles
• Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors and the general public sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crawling, crouching, lifting, reaching, balancing, stooping, grasping, manual dexterity, kneeling, standing for prolonged periods, walking, pushing, pulling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Heavy Work: Exerting force up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Incumbents may be working in areas with moving mechanical parts, electrified equipment, vibrations, fumes, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, extreme temperatures, low lighting, workspace restrictions, loud noises and travel.
