Hourly: $23.17 - $34.18

 

The successful candidate’s placement in the salary range will depend upon previous experience in a similar role.  The placement shall not exceed the midpoint of the salary range, which is $28.65 per hour.

DESCRIPTION

This position diagnoses, services and repairs a variety of city vehicles  and equipment to ensure safe and normal operation.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following,

  • Completes and records all inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform basic diagnostics and repairs on a wide variety of gasoline and diesel equipment and vehicles
  • Inspects, dismount, patch, change, replace, rotate, mount, and balance tires and tubes on all classes of City vehicles
  • Service all types of City equipment; change oil, air, fuel and hydraulic filters; lubricate chassis; test and replace batteries and alternators; test radiator, hoses and wiring for problems.
  • Checks and makes repairs to vehicle braking systems
  • May perform responsibilities of a similar nature and level as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS

Experience:

One (1) year of experience in journey-level automotive and heavy equipment mechanic work, or related experience.

Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year).  The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience. 

 

Education:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

 

Professional Licensure and/or Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Possession of a basic set of mechanic hand tools at time of hire.
