Hourly Salary Range:

Parks Maintenance Trainee: $18.63

Parks Maintenance Technician I: $20.70 - $27.54

Parks Maintenance Technician II: $22.86 - $30.40

Parks Maintenance Technician III: $25.65 - $34.11

Senior Parks Maintenance Technician: $29.98 - $39.88

 

This position is part of a flexible classification.  Qualified candidates may be hired at either level based on their experience, education and training as determined by the hiring authority.

DESCRIPTION

The position will work in the North Parks section and will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance for the City’s parks and athletic fields.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience:

Parks Maintenance Trainee:

One (1) year of work experience. Some training, volunteer or work experience related to the core functions of parks, grounds, golf course or sports field maintenance is preferred.

 

Parks Maintenance Technician I:

One (1) year of experience in the maintenance of lawns, gardens, trees, athletic fields, golf courses or related as well as some experience operating small or medium sized equipment such as blowers, weed eaters, trimmers, power washers or mowers.

 

Parks Maintenance Technician II:

One (1) year of experience comparable to that of a Parks Maintenance Technician I in the City of Tempe and experience working in one skilled area related to maintenance of City parks, golf courses, athletic fields or cemetery.

 

Parks Maintenance Technician III:

One (1) year of experience comparable to that of a Parks Maintenance Technician II in the City of Tempe and experience working in two skilled areas related to maintenance of City parks, golf courses, athletic fields or cemetery.

 

Senior Parks Maintenance Technician:

One (1) year of experience comparable to that of a Parks Maintenance Technician III in the City of Tempe and experience working in three (3) skilled areas related to maintenance of City parks, golf courses, athletic fields or cemetery.

 

‘Skilled Area’ as applied to Experience have defined internal checklists that delineate competencies and required certification, licensure or education. ‘Skilled Areas’ are limited to those which meet an operational need as determined by the Parks Manager. Examples may include, but are not limited to; pest control, heavy equipment operation, arboriculture, irrigation, sports field maintenance and horticulture.

Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year).  The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.

 

Education:

Parks Maintenance Trainee:

Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

 

Parks Maintenance Technician I/II/III/Senior:

High school diploma, GED or equivalency.

 

Certifications, Licenses, and/or Registrations:

All levels

  • Possession of a valid Arizona driver’s license.

 

Parks Maintenance Technician II/III/Senior

Possession and maintenance of any and all licenses or certifications related to the employee’s defined skilled area(s) of expertise.
